Mesh Hat

I met Carol at a fast food place. She had heard about me through the grapevine. She didn't live far from me. She had a very much loved old hat that was about worn out because she'd worn it so often and had washed it a lot, too. It had a tag inside that it was made in some other country. She asked if I could copy it. I did, and after paying me, she asked me to make 2 more! There is a similar pattern on the Patternworks site, using Fantasy Naturale yarn. The one I copied works up much faster. I can make this in any color, and sell for $18 if I use synthetic (not wool, cotton, etc.) yarn. Prices subject to change if the cost of the yarn goes up.

Afghans

Here are 2 afghans I crocheted. I made up the one that's got a lot of yellow in it, combining granny squares and zigzags. I gave it to friends in thanks for some help they gave me. The fan pattern is one I made several years ago from a kit (probably from Annie's Attic - they have a similar one now called a "scrap fan afghan).
I sold it for $100 at a consignment shop.

Jacob's Ladder

This "throw" is called "Jacob's Ladder". I made it for the gentleman who usually takes me to worship. (The grape design tile I recently posted was for the same family.) The pattern can be found on line, though as usual, I didn't quite follow the pattern! I don't remember what size hook I used, but the yarn is plain ol' worsted weight. The brand is "I Love This Yarn", which is Hobby Lobby's store brand.

Painting

I love to go to Painted by U, even though I must schedule the par- atransit bus. And with poor eyesight, it's not real easy to paint, not that I've ever been real good. But it's a fun place, not too expen- sive, plus both Joann Fabrics and Hancock's Fabrics are in that same strip shopping center (and both those fabric stores also carry - ta- dah! - yarn!). Here are 2 things I painted. The switch plate is in my hall, next to a painting I did at Sips 'n' Strokes, and I more or less painted the switchplate like it. The other is a simple 6" tile that I gave to a friend. She has grape patterns in her kitchen. Painted by U has templates, stencils, and stamps, but I prefer to do my own thing, crude though it may be! I feel that it's more personalized.

Knitted Things

Here are a few things I've knitted - I've given these to friends. The first picture is of 2 "prayer" or "friend- ship" shawls. I made each of them with 2 skeins of Lion "Home- spun" yarn, and think I used size 15 needles. They were about 15x60" or so. The other is an afghan, using the "feather and fan" pattern. I don't remember what yarn I used for that, nor what size needles. I'll be happy to make more of the shawls to sell!

A Fancy Crocheted Hat!

This is some- what tedious because so much is post stitches. It feels as if it is doubled, but that's because of the post stitches. This also makes it feel real thick. I used a 100% synthetic yarn. The pattern is by Lisa Naskrent and is from her web site (www.crochetgarden.com). This was a gift for a lady who was in prison but on work release. The prisoners could wear only white.

Some of the "Nice Things!"

These are 4 of my recent cro- cheted scarves (and a close up). The pattern is a variation of an- other pattern that I found.
I can make scarves and rectangular shawls using this pattern. Just tell me how long and how wide you'd like one! These scarves are 5-to-6" wide and 48-to-52" long. They are "just right" to wrap around your neck twice, or put over your head and tuck in the rest. These scarves, and more of the same in other colors, are for sale right now for $15
each (prices subject to change if the price of yarn goes up). Of course if you want it wider or bigger, it would cost more.

A New One!

Greetings! It is a cold day in the South, but because I recently quit my job, and because I have been crocheting since I was little, what better way to support my habit - LOL! - than by showing some things I crochet (and sometimes knit) and try to get back the cost of the yarn plus a little bit extra. It's hard for me to pass up a yarn sale, and a major project I have now is to get the yarn organized and mostly into one room - and out of the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, bedroom!

So give me a little while and you'll be seeing the goodies I make. I set up my first blog little over a year ago. It's blindedbyinsight.blogspot.com. On it, besides mostly poems I've written (something else I've done since I was little), you'll see some of the things I've knitted, crocheted, and painted!

Daddy's mother taught me to crochet when I was probably in grammar school. Mother taught me to sew (including embroider, etc.) and she, her mother (a professional dressmaker), and I all have taken in sewing. I taught myself to knit when I was late 20s or early 30s. The first thing I knitted was a simple headband. The 2nd thing I knitted? ... a dress for myself!

After becoming legally blind at age 59, I was glad to figure out that I could still crochet, using at least worsted weight yarn and a larger hook - and even when my sight was pretty bad, I crocheted almost a whole afghan while on an Amtrak ride to and from California, doing some of it while going through tunnels in the Rocky Mountains!
